[Simh] DG Nova booting from another file or "device"?

For example, I just tried

init/f mt0
CONFIRM? YES
UNIT IMPROPERLY SELECTED:  MT0
R

I'm having trouble figuring out what this could mean.  I appreciate
anyone's ideas,
