[Simh] Simh Networking on restrictive network?

I'm not sure what you're worried about. SIMH networking uses PCAP, not
Internet Connection Sharing.

If you have later versions of VMS which can obtain a DHCP address from
the network, you can use that, or you can talk with the network
administrators to assign you a fixed address.

If you want your host PC to be able to TCP/IP back-and-forth with the
VMS system using a single ethernet adapter, then you need to look at
using a virtual TAP adapter for SIMH and bridging the TAP adapter to
your real ethernet adapter - see the FAQ 2.10.

I run my SIMH VAX on a very restrictive corporate network - I just had
to have a static IP assigned to my VMS system.

	Hi,
I've some interest in running a simulated OpenVMS or other
system on my university campus as a thing to play with. It's not
something other people would necesarily access, but still I'd like
TCP/IP with it if possible. The only problem is the university network,
which is a bit restrictive.
I am guessing the best thing would probably be to talk to
the network people and explain what I'm doing, but I was wondering what
you guys might think about networking under these sorts of
circumstances? (Specifically, the system doesn't like rogue DHCP
servers, as can sometimes happen with Internet connection sharing on
Windows, I'm told.
	Any thoughts?
	Thanks,
	Zack.
