Villy,

could it be that your default directory is a search list (e.g. something involving SYS$SYSROOT) when you issue the DIR on the tape?

If that is the case, the behavior you're seeing is expected.

I have just noticed that when I mount an ANSI Tape  (not foreign) and do a
directory listing I get a listing of all of the files on the tape twice

Like this

A
B
C
A
B
C

A dump of the tape shows the files on the tape once only....

The same thing happens if I create the tape on the vax

Is this normal ??
