[Simh] Excessive paging of the real machine running SIMH - VAX

Villy,

Thanks for sharing your views and observations...

As you say.. when SIMH suffers the excessive paging affliction, the number
of page faults does seem to calm down after the number of page fault bytes
is close to the size of a virtual disk.. and as you have also commented it
can also occur on subsequent virtual disk mounts.

I have also experienced the situation whereby XP goes page fault crazy just
after the VMS "WBM-I-WBMINFO Write Bitmap has successfully completed
initialization." and then everything seems ok.. *even* on subsequent uses of
the SIMH instance (as long as you don't exit the SIMH .EXE) - exit SIMH or
re-boot the host machine and its 'pot luck' as to what happens!

Anyone else care to share your experiences/observations???

Richard

Just to confirm my observations....

Does you system settle down after writing a number of bytes that appears to
be
closely associated with the total size of your virtual disk ?? - if you
have 2
virtual disks - you will find it can also happen (usually does) when the
second
disk is mounted...

I have also had cases where it does the same sort of thing at shutdown....
