To add to what Clem said, the site codes were usually mnemonic to some
degree (ML = The Mill, PK = Parker St, MR = Marlboro, MK = Merrimack), but
by the time the Spit Brook Rd site was built in the early 80s, SK had
already been allocated, so ZK was used instead. Later on as the code space
was exhausted, the two letter codes were expanded to three with a trailing
"O" added to all existing codes, but a lot of folks continued to use the
original codes instead (just like they could never convince old-timers to
switch from "DEC" to the officially approved "Digital."
