The 2BSD distribution has ex binaries (for V6 I think?) and sources
(see usr/src/cmd/ex).  You can find it on the CSRG CD:

These should work on V6 and V7 I believe.

The 3BSD distribution has sources for vi and is also on the CSRG CD
and present in the TUHS archive:

http://www.tuhs.org/Archive/4BSD/Distributions/3bsd.tar.gz

I'm not sure how hard it is to get this working in V7.  It was for
Berkeley's VAX system.
