I use a program I wrote

There's a more official tool, but I don't know where it is off hand.
The process is:

    modern$ gtar -ocf stuff.tar file1 file2
    modern$ conv2 -o tape.tm stuff.tar

    sim> att tm tape.tm

    ancient$ tar x

> /Mike
