[Simh] I need help (and lots of it!)

I am trying to put simh together on linux and i'm
pretty ignorant comes to both linux and programming. 
I've run make and this is the error I'm getting:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot open output file BIN/pdp1: No such
file or directory
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [BIN/pdp1] Error 1 

Can anyone give me advice or even step by step how to
compile?  Any help would be appreciated.
