You do know the SIMH command

SHOW XQ ETH

don't you?

It'll show you the mapping between ethX and windows device names.

OK, I am an idiot :) 

Problem was with my assumption of counting base, i.e., Windump counts devices from 1, SIMH counts from 0, so I was always out - should have used attach xq eth3, of course I tried 1, 2, and 4……..0 had no cable attached, 1 and 2 were VMware and 4 didn't exist - boy, am I dumb!
