Hi,

another thought: As I've seen in the archive of this list, some time ago
somebody posted an article about a "blinkenlight frontpanel interface" for
a PC, using it for putting a "fake" CPU in the original box for whatever
reasons (performance, power saving, noise reduction, etc).

I thought about the same thing ... but then, to be as genuine as possible,
we should also think about a "TrueSound(tm)" emulation with digitized sound
samples of the original systems.

Imagine your PC making the same hissing, howling and rattling noises as a
"real" big VAX ;-)
of course the "sound" played must depend on what the system really does,
like mounting a tape or accessing a disk pack !

Just to give an idea to some underworked developers, who don't know what do
do in their free time :-)

To be a little bit more serious, other people record the sound of their
cars, so why not record the sounds of old computers, as long as they still
exist.
Make emulators more realistic :-)

Btw, what about "virtual" front panels for the emulators provided in SIMH
?! Not only good for debugging ...

Or GUI shell ?
Like the one for Hercules, the IBM/360 emulatror
(example: see http://www.bsp-gmbh.com/hercules/wingui/hercgui-index.html)

regards,
Andreas

PS: Don't treat this posting too serious ;-)
