[Simh] How to use tap or tun w/VMS

I have the tap and tun package installed on my host Mac OS X system but am not at all familiar with how tap/tun works or how to configure it so that my simh "vax" running VMS could use them to talk to the OS X host.

I've done a little google searching for examples but haven't turned up anything I could follow.

Any tips or suggestions welcome.
