[Simh] How to Get image backup to Simh

I have two real VAX machines both running OpenVMS 5.5-2. I also have a
simh install (on Linux) that is running OpenVMS 5.5-2. Both real VAX'es
have tape drives, although I am unsure of the exact model, and they are
linked as nodes (so they can use each others drives). I want to get a
image backup that is on tape from one of the real VAX'es to the simh
box. As far as I understand an image backup must be saved to either a
tape, or an unused disk drive, but it cant be on a disk with other data.
Therefore I see two options. 1) Add the simh machine into the cluster
of the other two, so that I should have access to the tape drives on the
real machines. Then I can do the backup (restore) right from the VAX
tape to the simh drive. or 2) In simh and a virtual tape drive (is this
possible) and then FTP the contents of the saveset from the tape to the
simh virtual tape drive. and finally restore from there.

I am still learning the VAX, so I am unsure what is the best route.

Also are there any limitations within simh for the number of drives
defined. Could I define 10 RA92 type drives? would I call them dua0
through dua10, or dua0 though dua4 and dub0 thorugh dub4, etc.

Thanks again to everyone involved on this project. It has been a fun,
and interesting time playing/learing.

Thanks
Aaron
