Hi, all I did more digging and reading ...and it turns out I was using the wrong device. it seems like the vax uses the xq, but the vax780 uses the xu device. I also needed to add the line "set xu enabled" before "attach xu vde:/tmp/switch1" Just fyi (for the list and google). On to other problems :) -Michael
