[Simh] EXT :Re: Simh and OpenVMS Integrity V8.4 Network Support issues

First of all I want thank you Matt and Dave for your prompt reply.

Yep, I know of the problems with the pcap networking implemention on OpenVMS
IA64 V8.4 and TCP/Ip stack V5.7.

For this reason I did try with Matt's porting, unfortunatelly without
success (I have downloaded the new pcap library from site
http://9track.net/simh/pcap, as reported by my previous email).

I'm very interested to run SIMH with network support on-top of the Integrity
platform so any hints or workaround will be very appreciated.

Best regards,
/Maurizio

There is a known problem with the pcap networking implementation on OpenVMS
IA64 8.4.
The original TCPIP$LIBPCAP simulation delivery with 8.4 (TCPIP 5.7) was
quite defective, and did not support enough pcap interfaces for SIMH to
work.
HP has since issued TCPIP 5.7 ECO3, which I'll try to get some time to test
in the next few weeks.

Matt also produced an Integrity port of the Alpha-only PCAP-VMS, which I
haven't fully tested either.
SIMH worked with Matt's port for most of the networking, but I didn't have
time to do a full-blown qualification.

Which PCAP port did you test SIMH with? HP's port or Matt's?

Dave

When I did the port to I64 I tested on V8.4, but it was on an rx4640. I have
had a report from someone else with an rx2600 experiencing the same problem.
Perhaps it is something to do with the brand of network card? I have access
to some other Interity systems (rx1620, rx2600, rx3600) so I'll do some
testing on those to see if I can reproduce the problem (it may be a few
weeks before I get chance to do this).

I'm fairly sure I fixed all those bugs so if this is still happening then it
may be that one of the LAN driver calls is not returning (IOLOCK8 spinlock
is aquired/released either side of each LAN driver call)
