[Simh] SIMH - Network loopback?

I have a Windows XP laptop running a SIMH VAX emulation with VMS. I have
Cygwin installed on the host, and use it as a DECWindows X-Terminal, so that
it looks very like a VAXstation (but more portable!).

All works fine when I'm plugged into my home network. However if I want to
take the laptop on my travels and unplug the ethernet, communication between
the Windows host and the SIMH VMS stops. Presumably it is relying on the
ethernet switch upstream to loopback the packets from VMS to Windows.

Other than carrying round a physical Ethernet switch, is there any software
solution to this? Perhaps something similar to the Microsoft loopback driver
that I have used in the past to connect to a Virtual PC running another copy
of Windows.

Any ideas?
