Are you asking me personally? I would guess that the authors decided that emulating a supported cdrom device was important, given dec/hp distribution practices.

No. Among other things, when a disk is init'd, bitmap.sys is sized to reflect the available blocks, so if a disk (image) was init'd on type 'A' drive and then attached to type 'B' drive, things obviously ain't right (as ANA/DISK will report).

The rip is 'good'. I verified it a couple differant ways.
I'm pretty sure this is a simulation issue...
