Oh my goodness! An FMGR prompt! I never thought I'd see one of those
again!
Wow, now that I've got a primary up and running (thanks Dave, your
instructions were perfect!), I've come to realize just how much I've
forgotten about RTE. I thought I'd remember that stuff forever.
Ok, my new question is: I know there was some discussion in the past
about the RTE-6 firmware - has it all been implemented? If I gen my own
system, can I use the RTE-6 RP's in my answer file?
Oh, and another question: Is the format of the 7970 tape file documented
anywhere? I can look at the source code and figure it out, but I was
hoping it was already documented somewhere.

There are now some tape restoration notes and SIMH logs at:
http://www.bitsavers.org/bits/HP/tapes/rte-6vm/rte-tape-restoration/
The "restoring-psave-tapes.txt" file outlines the basic procedure for
getting bootable RTE disc images from the tapes in the parent directory,
and the log files are console captures from the SIMH sessions I did to
restore and boot the images.
The "BCKOF.sim" file contains the commands necessary to restore the tape
images to disc images, and the "RTE.sim" file contains the commands to
boot
the resulting discs.
If anyone has trouble, please post the problems here to the SIMH list.
