Transfering your VMS licence(s) to anything other than a machine
certified by HP violates the VMS license agreement. For CHARON(VAX/AXP),
HP sells so called transfer licenses, this makes it legal to run VMS on
CHARON/* in combination with your original VMS license and a selected
set of layered products, mentioned in the transfer license. HP sets
additional constraints on the transfer license, f.i. running on HP
(Intel/AMD) hardware is mandatory. Your software support contract, if
any, is also honoured by HP when you purchase the transfer license, but
only if problems you experience running CHARON can be reproduced on a
real VAX/Alpha.
So, SIMH is "hobbyist only".
